As fall is now in full speed, so is SPACE, and we’re actively looking for more volunteers to join us in this important work. We’re moving ahead with focused planning through five dedicated groups: Rubber Chip Removal, Policy, Research, Community Engagement and Communication, and Directional Planning. Each group has specific goals that will help us expand our outreach and advance our mission to continue removing rubber chips from play spaces in La Crosse. Please consider joining one of these groups as they allow you to customize your workload and make a difference in protecting our community and the environment!
Building on our success with rubber chip removal from some local playgrounds, we are now laying the groundwork to research and address crumb rubber turf in the La Crosse School District. Sarah Dollak, a new member of SPACE and a senior at UW La Crosse, has begun researching synthetic turf fields and is starting our conversation about next steps. She’s created an infographic about crumb rubber turf, that highlights key findings, the health and environmental impacts, safer alternatives, and what this research means for our community.
