Northside/Coulee Montessori:
Thank you to members of this group who spoke to the SET committee yesterday. They reported that, "the SET team is happy with the woodchip plan. The team is also very happy to help mobilize volunteers for spreading the chips." That is great to hear and I will let everyone know when I get a timeline of this project.
Emerson/Crowley Park: The results of the survey indicate the majority of respondents (89%) prefer wood chips/engineered wood fiber (EWF) to replace the rubber chips. Poured in place (PIP) surfacing was the second most popular option (55%), though there were also concerns voiced about the possibility of undesirable chemicals in PIP. Both EWF and PIP are ADA compliant.
Most people favored a timeline that best suits the Park Department, though about one-third preferred making the switch as quickly as possible.
Dan Trussoni from the City of La Crosse Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department will take this information to his playground reps and to the park board to see if they have additional input to consider. Also, he will see if there are options to do part PIP (like under the slide structure) and part EWF under the swings.
We will follow up when we have more information from Dan, but we may ask you to contact more people or attend a meeting as the project moves along.
